We are raising awareness of a condition called VEXAS syndrome in loving memory of Adam. VEXAS syndrome is a very rare autoimmune condition that can sadly be fatal. The immune system attacks tissue throughout the body and causes inflammation and swelling. It is more common in men over the age of 50. There is no way to prevent VEXAS syndrome but there are treatments that can help. VEXAS syndrome can lead to other serious health conditions making VEXAS hard to treat and recover from. Lots more research into effective treatment and awareness raising can be done for this newly discovered condition. This is why we are running the Great Scottish Run for the Rare Autoinflammatory Conditions Community (RACC-UK) charity to help make a difference to people diagnosed with VEXAS syndrome and other rare autoinflammatory conditions.
Adam was 68 when he sadly passed away as a result of VEXAS syndrome. We miss him and think of him often. He was fit and well before his diagnosis. He received excellent care at Newcastle Freeman Hospital. The end of September this year would’ve marked his 70th birthday. On Sunday 6th October we’ll come together as a family to celebrate what would’ve been his birthday while taking part in the Great Scottish Run.
We are a family group of all ages and running abilities. From the ages of 76 to 19 and everything in between. We were all related to Adam and are looking forward to the challenge of the Great Scottish run half marathon.
If you would like to support us please donate to our family just giving page. Any donation, big or small would mean so much and help families affected by rare autoinflammatory conditions like VEXAS syndrome. There is no pressure to make a donation, simply learning more about this rare condition will help raise awareness.
